In 1899 the American economist Thorstein Veblen published his book "The Theory of the Leisure Class". In it he presented a new model, which came to be perceived as the right way of explaining the phenomenon of fashion trends. However, during the 20th century more people opposed the Veblian model, finding flaws in the work, and this article joins them.
