The Leaders of Epsilon - The first solo exhibition of street artist Nesca opens in the Urbanix Gallery for Urban Art
This exhibition centers on the Epsilon planet, a fantasy world that exists in another galaxy far away from Earth. Epsilon is struggling for survival against an unremitting assault from evil forces over power and dominion in the planet. These forces are trying to control the planets crystal reserves, which represent their only source of energy and life. The method of application of the crystals has led to ongoing war between the residents of Epsilon. One faction sees the crystals as a vital source of infinite positive energy that brings about prosperity, peace and harmony for the planet. The second faction wants to harness the crystals as sources of energy for weapons of mass destruction that can be used to conquer, control and devastate anyone opposing their plan and also to attack other planets. Using a graphic, rich, detailed and colorful artistic language and very geometric motifs Nesca creates an alternative reality that is full of life and much influenced by imagery from the world of fantasy comics. Through a series of portraits of the residents of Epsilon, including the god and evil leaders of the two factions and other common folk, Nesca reveals an out of this world version of our own capitalist reality, a world of greed, money and status, a cruel and insidious world that only reveres the empty achievements of status, prestige and competitiveness over real life. This exhibition presents paintings on branches of walnut and eucalyptus trees, on plywood boards and paper, and also installation works that use biodegradable materials that simulate the mining reality of crystals on Epsilon - the bone of contention that tears their society apart. Nesca (1983) is a self-taught artist who has been active as a street graphic artist in Tel Aviv these last eight years. He recently participated in various exhibitions in galleries and alternative exhibition spaces in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Curator: Sally Haftel Naveh
