Globalization is over there

The Shenkar Forum for Culture and Society is starting its sixth year of activity with a symposium on Identity and Globalization, with reference to architecture, design and ecology. The symposium will be held on Thursday, November 27th 2008, and will host two key speakers from China.

Pecha Kucha - Fifth in the series

On Sunday, November 16th 2008 at 19:00 the fifth Pecha Kucha event in the series will be held in Hangar 11 in Jaffo Harbor. Various designers, artists and creators from different disciplines will meet and present their works on one stage.

XSRZ- The 5# Accessories Market

A design bazaar for fashion accessories that offers unique items by young designers. This is the bazaar's fifth year and this year the theme is innovation, originality and quality. November 13th to November 15th 2008 at Kalif House in Yaffo.

Azrieli Architecture Award

The entrepreneur and architect David Azrieli with the Israel Association of United Architects (IAUA) will give the Azrieli Architecture Award 2008 to excelled architects. The awards ceremony also includes a lecture by world renowned architect Christoph Kapeller. The event will take place on Monday, November 10th 2008, at the Mediatheque Holon.

A new edition of A5 Magazine - "Sex"

The sixth issue of the interdisciplinary magazine A5, is titled "Sex". It presents a cheeky and uncensored perspective on 68 works of art by 67 artists from various medias in Israel and abroad.

Dizengoff Yotzer Fair for the New Year

The Israel Community of Designers and the Culture Administration of the Tel Aviv-Jaffa Municipality will hold a New Years Greetings Fair on Friday, September 19th 2008, on Ben Gurion Avenue in Tel Aviv.

Touching Leather

A seminar dedicated to designing in leather and leather bindings will be held on September 18th 2008 in Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. This seminar is intended for design and visual communications students, graphic designers, design studios, professional book binders and anyone who wishes to gain professional knowledge in the field.

It's an architecture section

Throughout the months of July-August ZeZeZe Architecture Gallery will host a series of meetings presenting the fresh Final Projects from students of architecture schools in Israel. This meetings provide an introduction to the new generation of designers and architects that will be influential in shaping our surroundings in the following years. Last meeting will be on August 26th 2008.

Getting Started

A seminar for design department graduates, and young designers will be held on Thursday, July 31st 2008 in the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies. Throughout the day speakers will discuss marketing and self-promotion, Support opportunities for new designers and tell their own career story.

Piero Lissoni in Israel

The designer Piero Lissoni is arriving on July 14th 2008 to give a lecture for the Italian "Kartell" brand and for the launch of its flagship store in Israel.

Punk - The Meaning of Style

Shenkar College and Cinematheque Tel Aviv will hold a seminar on punk and its cultural and stylistic connections in Israel and the world on July 9th 2008, to celebrate the new release of a book on the subject.

Architect Day Events

Italy-Israel Design 2#

A conference, held in Shenkar College on Thursday, June 19th 2008, about the ethical issues and future trends in the jewelry industry. Members of the jewelry industry, designers and historians of this field, from Israel and Italy, will give lectures in the conference.

Cartooning For Peace

In the "Cartooning for Peace" event held this month at the Israeli Museum of Caricature and Comics in Holon, caricaturists from all around the world met in order to promote peace using conversation and mutual creativity.

Rupture and Repair

On Monday, June 16th 2008, the Hebrew University in Jerusalem will hold a day-long symposium on "Rupture and Repair" by the Adi Foundation. The topic for the competition of "Adi Award for Jewish Expression in Art and Design 2008", which is held every two years, will also be announced.

Twisted grounds

Along with the "Twisted Reality" exhibition now presented in the Israeli Center for Digital Art, there will also be a day-long seminar on "Israeli Animation in the Face of Today's Reality", held on Tuesday, June 10th 2008

Architecture, cinema and anything in between

The Wizo Academy of Design and Education in Haifa is holding in June the first Israeli symposium dedicated to the meeting of architecture and cinema, two very different fields; architecture deals in reality and three dimensions, and cinema in illusions and two dimensions. A more in-depth look reveals similarities, and the meeting between them serves both fields.

TOKYO talking

This year's conference of the Association of Interior Architects in Israel, held in collaboration with the "Bait VaNoi" (House and Beauty) magazine, will focus on Contemporary Japanese Architecture and Interior Design, and will present lectures by leading Japanese and Israeli architects. The event is held in the Avenue Convention and Events Center on May 16th 2008

Houses From Within - Tel Aviv

"Houses From Within", the annual international architectural event, will be held in Tel Aviv on Fri-Sat, May 16th-17th. During the event more than 100 houses and public buildings all over the city will open to the public.

The new edition of A5 Magazine, "Future", is published

A5 Magazine is just over a year old, and celebrating with a new edition, presenting 64 works by artists from various media from Israel and abroad. The release is on Sunday, May 11th 2008, in "Salona", Jaffa.

Ger-mania

The fourth annual conference held by the History and Theory Unit of Bezalel Academy, "Ger-mania", focuses on the complex relations that exist between Israeli and German cultures, with an emphasis on the mutual influence in the various artistic media of both cultures. The conference will be held on Sunday, May 11th 2008.

Design - Commerce - Technology - Culture

The School of Design of the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT) will hold the annual conference of the Department of Interior Design on Monday, May 5th 2008. The conference will deal in the fascinating merger of design, commerce, technology and culture.

This (ze) is Reality

The "ZeZeZe Architecture Gallery" will hold a workshop and design competition for architecture students from the Ariel University Center from April 27th to May 1st 2008. The unique event is modeled after a television reality show. For four days the participants will compete for the title "Best Designer" in front of an audience and a panel of judges in the gallery.

The Bat Yam Biennale of Urban Landscape and Architecture

The first Bat Yam International Biennale of Urban Landscape and Architecture will take place on May 13th-27th 2008. During the biennale designers, architects, students and professionals from Israel and the world will discuss the relevant issues of quality of life in the city. 30 sites will be erected for the biennale, and open to the public, providing new and interesting ways to use public spaces.

To preserve or not to preserve..?

The Architecture Department of the Bezalel Academy, will hold a conference on "Preservation as a Tool for Interpretation" on Thursday, April 10th 2008. Through preservation a society can choose which sites are worthy of being embedded in its collective memory, and which are wiped from the history books, never to gain recognition in public awareness.

Farewell to the Cement Dress

Installation work by the eco-artist and photographer Shai Zakai is presented in Mediatheque Holon for the International Eco-Feminist Conference. The installation proposes a visual debate on the values of "sustainability" and is based upon the dialogue between feminine identity and identification with vanishing nature. On Friday, May 4th 2008 there will be a meeting with the artist.

Back to the Canon

Before the "Back to the canon- Photographed portraits by Claude Cahun" exhibition is closed, the Israeli Center for Digital Art will hold a conference on the life, work and artistic achievements of the French photographer and artist. Local artists such as Michal Heiman, Roee Rosen and Dor Gaz will be attending the conference on Wednesday, May 2nd 2008.

A conference on Architectural Education

The Israeli Association of United Architects (IAUA) annual conference will focus this year on architectural education. The topics discussed include teaching architecture, the characteristics of architecture schools in Israel, specializations in the field, ethical codes and educating the public to the field. The conference will be held on March 27th and 28th, 2008.

Contested Landscapes

An international conference held by the Shenkar Forum for Culture and Society held on March 16th -17th 2008. The conference is devoted to dealing in the existing relationship between local landscape and ecological functions and the role of scenery in creating identities that conserve collective memory.

The new face of ceramics

Marek Cecula, an artist, curator, ceramic designer is giving a lecture on Friday, March 14th 2008, at Janco Dada Museum is the Ein Hod Artists' Village.

Act first - Think later

A seminar on industrial design that focuses on the "designer-Maker", the designer as entrepreneur, entrepreneurial design in Israel and education for design- all of which reveal the practice and research that go into the field of design. The two-day seminar will be held in Bezalel, Jerusalem on March 12th-13th 2008. Free entrance!

Female presence in 21st century architecture

Three of the top international female architects arrived in Israel to participate in a symposium on Female presence in 21st century architecture. This symposium honors International Woman's Week and will be held on Friday, March 7th 2008 in the Steinberg Culture and Art Center in Holon.

Ecofeminism - Women, Art and Nature

In honor of the "Woman" festival in Holon, Mediatheque Holon will host a conference on: "Women, Art and Nature" that deals in the cross point between art, ecology and feminism. The conference will be held on March 6th 2008.

What can we learn from China..?

A lecture about the appearance and function of the contemporary Chinese city- by the architect and critic Bert de Muynck, to be held on Friday, February 29th 2008 in the ZeZeZe Architecture Gallery.

How to design success...?

Along with the "Designed in Israel '08" and "Shishi-shlishi" (ThirdFriday) events, the Israel Community of Designers and Tolmans Company have invited the international architect and designer Patricia Urquiola to lecture on the subject. The lecture will be held in the Suzanne Dellal Centre for Dance and Theatre on February 22nd 2008.

Come hear some comics...

This first series of lectures for the general public will be held in the Israeli Museum of Caricature and Comics in Holon. Lectures will be given by various caricaturists and comics artists on various subjects.

Eco-play with Bamboo

An international conference and exhibition on the subject of Bamboo toys are hosted by the Department of Industrial Design of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, with guest speakers from Germany, France and China. The conference will be held on Tuesday, January 29th 2008.

Projects Exhibition and the National Architecture Convention 2008

The Projects Exhibition 2008 will be held on January 28th-29th at the Israel Trade Fairs & Convention Center in Tel Aviv. A range of advanced and innovative projects, services and products for architecture, design and building fields will be presented.

A presentation of the work and a meeting with the Polish artist Zorka Wollny will happen on Tuesday, December 4th 2007, at Zaritsky Artists' House, Tel aviv.

City / Theory / Media / Architecture

Two days of lectures organized by Block Magazine will happen on Tuesday, November 27th 2007 at the Technion and on Thursday, November 29th 2007 at the College of Management. This series of lectures will examine the use of advanced technologies for creating built environments, using multidisciplinary approach based on engineering, biology and physics.

The Design Management track of the Master's Degree program in Industrial Design has invited Mr. Hillel Cooperman, formerly the design director of Microsoft, to give a lecture titled "Next Generation Consumer Software". Thursday, November 29th 2007 at Bezalel.

Pecha Kucha- Second in the series

The Jewelry and Fashion Department in Bezalel is proud to host Professor Jan-Cristoph Zoels, a world renowned expert on interaction design, for a lecture during a conference, which will be held on November 26th 2007 in the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design.
